Premier League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
| June 1st, 2008Had I not witnessed this, the spirit of sportsmanship and spectatorship lives in me!
I am not a player of a gentleman game, I am not a sportsman, I aint a fan of cricket not even a spectator. I myself have never proven my actions had I been on field for a sport. But what carries me to the spirit of this sport or any sport is the custom attached.
Though very recently I have been proven hypocrite, I have been proven not a man of my own words, beliefs, principles and ideals. I don’t know how much of this would actually make any sense. Cricket is not my forte, I don’t play, I don’t watch, I don’t talk and I don’t even follow cricket at all. But the domestic league at my company drove me to go and watch every encounter taking place between any team, be it mine or others.
Suddenly hooting for game of Cricket has become a passion, something that I had never known for this game. But things that I have witnessed last Friday have once again suppressed any feeling and emotions that were boiling in me since the start of this league. QPL as we call it, our Cricket League.
You don’t just play a game, you also respect it, honour it and for that you serve! Serve the games you play! Sport makes a lot of what the personality you have, and sports also show the real kind of person you are. Pretentious, idealist, introvert, extrovert whatever kind you be, when you play your sport, when you are on the field, the way you behave there is the real you. Those are your true colours.
I have seen enough of the colours on the field recently. I know it is really hard to hold yourself back, hold back the emotions and feelings and grudges and just focus on your play, especially when you believe you are under injustice. But then, its equally hard to dishonour the game. Aint it? Hard to kick the stumps, hard to slang the sport official on field. Aggression is great thing, if well directed. But apparently all this is a display of Game Spirit. A little display of disagreement, a little offensive one though .. but still accepted as well within the limits of Game Spirit. Only that now Spirit is limitless, taking in offence, indecency, immodest demeanour.
I guess there is no more a need for me to go and cheer a game of cricket in QPL. They do it all from inside the field!
May the spirit of the sport live on!!!!
